IKEA to present its first customized meatball for Australian market

IKEA has reportedly made it to the headlines in Australia for introducing a new kangaroo meatball recipe. The Swedish furnishing retailer will be serving a special limited-edition meatball known as the Roo Ball.

Similar to all IKEA meatballs, the latest addition too would include 100% authentic Australian ingredients in a move to support local farmers and suppliers. According to sources, this is the first time that IKEA has tailored an iconic dish for the local market.

However, the Roo Ball won’t be available at their colossal flagship stores throughout the country. Foodies can munch on the delicious Roo Ball at IKEA’s Democratic Design Days Festival to be held at the Rocks’ Museum of Contemporary Art.

Ivana Frost, Food Manager at IKEA Australia, was quoted stating that the Roo Ball is made from kangaroos sourced from a healthy ecological environment and are qualitatively rich. The recipe can be easily recreated at home at a reasonable price and the firm is confident of its taste, added Frost.

According to IKEA, the dish is a combination of Australian flavors and Swedish heritage merged to provide the best of both worlds. If the public appreciates the dish, the Roo Ball may permanently make it to the IKEA stores in Australia.

Incidentally, the firm has also launched its new salmon balls, which are currently available across the world except for Australia, where it would debut in 2019.

Attendees of the IKEA Democratic Design Days festival will get a sneak peek of the new fish flavored meatball before the rest of Australia gets a taste. The Roo Balls will also be an attraction at the first ever Donate By Plate IKEA Meatball pop-up restaurant, inspired by the firm’s hometown Museum meatball restaurant located in Almhult, Sweden.

Proceeds from the Donate by Plate restaurant initiative will be donated to Foodbank, the charity that distributes food to the ones in need, cited sources familiar with the matter.
