McDonald’s UK, the UK arm of one of the largest American fast-food chains, has reportedly announced that it has permanently added the vegan ‘McPlant’ burger to its menu across the United Kingdom.
Last year, McDonald's UK and Ireland had announced that it would be experimenting some potentially significant menu modifications as part of the firm's ongoing effort to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. After the testing, which took place across 250 restaurants in September, yielded favorable results the fast food giant decided on making the McPlant permanent.
The McPlant burger is McDonald's latest plant-based product and took over three years to create in collaboration with Beyond Meat, a meat substitute business based out of LA.
The burger will be available across all McDonald's locations in the UK starting January 5, just in time for Veganuary. The new offering is ideal for individuals who already eat plant-based food and those wishing to change up their habits.
The McPlant burger has now been promoted by celebs such as Rosie Ramsey, who celebrated McPlant’s arrival in the North East by eating one on a Northumberland shoreline.
Michelle Graham-Clare, Chief Marketing Officer, McDonald's UK and Ireland, stated that the company is thrilled that its McPlant burger is now officially 'everywhere' in the UK, available for more of its customers to enjoy.
Following a remarkable response during the test period in October, McPlant is now available in retail parks, on the high-street, and at the gas stations across the UK and Ireland.
Graham-Clare further added that the fast-food chain is thrilled to provide its customers with more great-tasting McDonald's options once again. It is the same distinctive taste as before, but this time its plant based.
One vegan McPlant burger consists of a vegan sesame bun, a plant-based patty, ketchup, mustard, fresh onion, vegan sauce, pickles, tomato, lettuce, and lots of vegan cheese.
