Saudi to boost renewable energy generation capacity to 60GW by 2030


 	Â Out of the aimed 60GW capacity expansion, 40GW would be coming from solar energy while the remaining 20GW would be from wind & other energy sources.
 	Â The nation is working under the National Transformation 2020 Program & KSA Vision 2030 framework to develop a sustainable clean energy sector.

The middle eastern nation of Saudi Arabia has reportedly announced that it intends to boost the nation’s renewable energy generation capacity to about 60 gigawatts (GW) by the year 2030.

Reports cite, out of the planned 60GW capacity expansion of renewable energy generation, 40GW would be derived from solar energy while the remaining 20GW would be coming from wind & other energy sources.

According to a report by Gulf Business, the nation’s renewable energy generation efforts have increased in intensity ever since 2016 when the Vision 2030 program, under which the nation intends to diversify its economy and lessen its dependence on oil, was unveiled. A plethora of new energy initiatives have been announced subsequently in an effort to develop a more sustainable Saudi Arabian renewable energy sector.

The President of King Abdullah Atomic & Renewable Energy City, Dr. Khalid bin Saleh Al-Sultan stated that the kingdom has a number of plans to integrate a renewable energy network into the nation.

Apart from the KSA Vision 2030 program, the kingdom is also working under the 2020 National Transformation Program, that also focuses upon constructing a more sustainable Saudi Arabian renewable energy sector, which includes relevant services & industries, the training of human resources and the Saudization of technologies to seek a balanced mix of alternative energy & fossil fuels.

The nation played host to the 9th General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena) where representatives & leaders from more than 160 nations discussed new ways to expedite renewable energy adoption to support sustainable development goals & climate.

According to reports, further details pertaining to the renewable energy generation goal have not been unveiled yet
